Our former congresswoman ELizabeth Furse told us that the Native Americans gave up Celilo Falls because the electricity generated by the dam was needed for the production of aluminum needed to win the war in Korea. As it turned out, we didn't win that war and we now import most of our aluminum and the electricity is being used to power the hubs for the Internet. It would appear that they gave up their homes and their salmon so that we could send out our e-mails. Just think, if they hadn't been so anxious to be patriotic, they could have held out for a price that was more consistent with their value./~m
